A veteran of live television, with over 30 year’s experience gave me the opportunity to travel both nationally and internationally which eventually lead to a tree change to the Southern Highlands of NSW.
This in turn saw our friends and families coming to stay for a weekend getaway.
Wholesome home cooked meals was and still is a passion of mine, and I saw myself cooking up a storm on my days off and putting in the freezer for those occasions when our next guests arrived. Driving down the Hume highway having just
finished a television production, I would ring my husband and tell him to get the “slow cooked beef & pork cottage pie” out of the freezer along with the apple crumble and garlic bread.
By the time our guests arrived, the fire would be burning, the cheese platter ready and the dinner slowly heating in the oven along with a bottle (or two) of local shiraz breathing.
Warm bacon & egg pastry pies in a basket served up for breakfast the next morning gave us the fuel we needed to pound the streets of Bowral, Berrima and whatever markets were on, showcasing the local talent and Southern Highlands produce.
These weekend activities became a regular event and so I would think of other meals to cook to have standing by in the freezer, (you see I loved having our friends come to stay with us, but I did not want to spend the whole weekend cooking; I wanted to be a part of their company and relax with them).
One day driving home thinking about what I had been doing for the past 4 1/2 years after a 10 hour day of television production, it occurred to me that this is exactly what so many other busy people would love, so why not have their weekend meals waiting for them in their short-stay rental or home.
